Miami Lifestyle: A Fun Summer It Has Been!

I have been gone for weeks so I have not been blogging.

Here's part of what I have been up to.

Key Biscayne Fourth of July Parade

The traditional Key Biscayne 4th of July Parade committee asked us to parade down in our golf cart, representing Argentina in the 2010 World Cup. After the devastating loss to Germany, the boys did not feel like celebrating much, but we defied our low spirits and the fierce Miami heat, gave out candy to the kids in the crowd, and felt proud when people took pictures of us with the Messi soccer t-shirts hanging from the front.

Baires Grill on Lincoln Road

My aunt, sister, Daniela Urzi and Shakara Ledard enjoy fun night out in South Beach

My family got together at Baires Grill for great conversation and great food. As it happens, international top model Daniela Urzi's husband is the owner of this great restaurant on Lincoln Road in South Beach. She is good friends with my cousin's friend, Shakara Ledard (also a model, who is featured in the latest issues of Vogue and Harper's Bazaar). Yummy desserts were compliments of Daniela, who is very gracious; and really pretty.

Young, Fabulous, and Cubana

Super-tanned Caro Murciano and Jimena Teijeiro. Ready to party!

I had the privilege of visiting Calle Ocho, the quintessential Miami street of Little Havana with my native friend Caro Murciano, who invited us to her 'dives'. It's the most effective way of pretending to be a local, no?
We met at Caro's. Imagine a whitewashed fairytale waterfront house in Key Biscayne on one of the hottest nights of the year, a midsummer night's dream of a place. Dreamily gorgeous was she, with a BB up do, wearing a sexy silk camisole, Stella Mc Cartney-ish shorts via Urban Outfitters, a striped Jean Paul Gaultier for Target torero and tan Fendi shoes. ("I love Fendi. It's understated", she says. Got to love her for that!). She removed her Chanel quilted bag from the original black box (so jealous!), took a last sip of pink champagne - my favorite - and we were off.
First up was Mr. Yum's... delishious sushi. Next, to Kimbara Cumbara, a 'hole in the wall', where we heard the band "Palo!" playing "La Havana Buena"with such heart. We left for Hoy Como Ayer to hear more excellent live music. The lyrics were so nostalgic of Cuba, I admit I had to fight back some tears (yes, I could relate). The band was supported by the fearless duo of Caro and Nelson Duque, the perfect backup dancers! They were congratulated by the lead singer - and everyone else. I liked that people were there to have a genuinely good time and dance the night away.
It's nice to know there is a corner of Miami that feels authentic, where egos are left at the door, where even the most stressed out can switch off.

A roar of respect to the legendary Calle Ocho (and to the nostalgia of home)!
