Book night: Capri in South Beach

Last night I was thrilled to meet author Pamela Fiori at Books & Books. She presented her beautiful new book, In the spirit of Capri, published by Assouline. The super well-travelled editor-in-chief of Town & Country magazine spoke about the allure of Capri, an island she first discovered during her honeymoon and visits often, and also included Positano, Venice, and other Italian cities in the itinerary.

The influential Pamela Fiori, so sophisticated. It was such a pleasure to speak to you, thank you!!!

I was impressed by Mrs. Fiori's personality. She has the editrix mystique and seems down to earth too. She arrived from Palm Beach with her husband, looking very Palm Beach-y (surely via Capri). My dress is Vena Cava via Gap.

I also met Ausbert de Arce, the publisher at Assouline. A charming and handsome frenchman, who gave me some tips on how to publish your book.............. how nice!

Thanks Lucre for taking these pictures with your iPhone!!

New York Fashion Week - Part III

Best of New York Fashion Week - Fall 2010

Zero + Maria Cornejo
I interviewed Maria Cornejo for Vogue Latin America, she is lovely to speak to. Maria is a minimalist who endeavors to be different: she does not want to design anything that might look trendy or mass-produced, and thus the clothes have original shapes and forms.
Born in Chile to chilean parents, raised in London, lives in New York.... she told me that for the first time she was feeling a desire to reconnect with her South American roots. I hope she does.

The lovely Maria Cornejo

Marc by Marc Jacobs
Marc Jacobs is the fashion darling of the moment - whether you like it or not. He also designs for the Marc Jacobs and Louis Vuitton brands.

Rich in textures. Fitted/loose silhouette, nice effect.

The man himself

L.A.M.B. by Gwen Stefani
Some of us die for her girly rock 'n' roll look.

Sophie Theallet
Sophie is relatively new to the shows. Her focus was on dresses.

The sleeves on the dress on the right are an inspiration from a story in which a girl asks for a dress made of moon and stars

Sophie Tellanet with model Coco Rocha

Alexandre Herchcovitch
I met Alexandre backstage at the shows in Sao Paulo Fashion Week. The fashion industry in Sao Paulo is amazing. It has nothing to envy New York for product quality and creativity, but the NY shows do have lots more exposure.

Marchesa
Last but not least, a beautiful gown by Georgina Chapman of Marchesa.

Coming next: Best of London Fashion Week. Then Milan, Paris........

New York Fashion Week - Part I

Best of New York Fashion Week - Fall 2010

Rodarte
The brand of the moment. These sisters from California do everything their own way. And everyone - including Bono! - seem to love them for it.

Four of their elaborated looks....

It's all in the intricate details....

Left: The designers Kate and Laura Mulleavy - sporting an unlikely look - at the opening of their retrospective show at FIT this week - I do like the star cardi, though...
Right: Bono and model at the Rodarte party

Michael Kors
Jet-set adored. He epitomizes all-american sportswear. This was one of my favorite collections.

I love each element of this look - grey+camel combined, comfy cashmere, slouchy boots, the belt, the bag... I could wear this every day!

The fur stole looks so cool and it's so unexpected...

Carolina Herrera
    Red dress, anyone?

Mc Queen is dead, long live Mc Queen!

Alexander Mc Queen, one of the greatest and most innovative designers of our time, has died today.
An expert in pattern making and cut, he learned to make properly made clothes as an apprentice on Savile Row in London - clients included the Prince of Wales. Style maverick Isabella Blow - also greatly missed - launched him into fame by buying his complete graduation collection at Central St Martins. He then became head designer at Givenchy, until he created his own eponymous brand. At Alexander Mc Queen, the avant garde and masterfully constructed clothes were shown as performance art, with the latest in music, light and image technology.

Mc Queen was irreverent, a rebel, extreme. An enfant terrible who showed us the future; his fantastic designs proved the almost limitless possibilities in design. He leaves a void, as such creativity and freedom lack in today's mass production world.

I like to think he is reunited with his muse Isabella, his dear mom....... and all of the CREATIVE FORCES that have graced us with their talent.

Thank you, Mc Queen, for what you have given us! We will miss you!

Classic: Axl Rose + Jon Bon Jovi

Ready to rock?

Let's go...........................

"... take me down to Paradise City... where the grass is green and the girls are pretty..."

"... she's got a smile that it seems to me... reminds me of childhood memories... where everything was as fresh as a bright blue sky..."

"...through the years and miles between us... it's been a long a lonely ride... but if I got that call in the dead of the night... I'd be right by your side..."
